Have you weighed your carb floats ?  carb sync is in order. I am thinking its a fuel issue.

    Hi Kevin,

The new floats were installed last year on my engine and a carb sync was performed also. It's run less than 30 hours in the interim so presumably it wouldn't have gotten too far our of sync in that time(?)

Fuel sounds like it could be a problem from what other have told me, yes. Thanks.

I've been advised to empty the carb bowls and see if that helps. Because there's a lot of water/condensation in the air where the plane is kept (Ireland)

    Hi John,

Thanks for your advice. I had no idea. If that case what has been your solution to the CDI problems?

    Kind regards,

    John

John, check out the video on this site for "carburetor needle clip position". In the beginning of the video they say adjustment may be necessary if you are experiencing high mag drop.

    Hi Garrett,

Thanks for you kind reply. I watched the video. It says to adjust needles if there is a high Mag drop on both mags above 3000RPM

It's true that that is what I am experiencing however it's suspicious insofar as it just suddenly started doing it. There was no change in atmospheric conditions (same, sea level airfield) which makes me wonder if it's a needle adjustment issue. If it was surely it would always be dropping large (500) RPMs and it wasn't, it was always only around 150 RPM

This large drop came on all of a sudden. But I stand to be corrected! :-)

I've been advised to clean up the earth connections to the CDI's which I'll do first. Then I am going to fit 8 new Plugs. If still no joy I'll consider adjusting the needle. Thanks again

    Regards,

    John

    Hi John,

I am also experiencing similar problems, also appeared all of a sudden. Drop of approx 400-500 rpm on both circuits.

How did you solve your issue?

    Thanks

    Matia
