Re: Mag test fails ... but ONLY at low RPM?

I am trying to picture you working on the engine, lying under the panel with your head between the rudder pedals and thinking that this was the better option.
Remember that you do not need to pull the engine out completely.
If you can support it from overhead, you can dismount it from the engine mount and swing it a few inches forward and totate it to the side with the prop and most of the wires still attached.
It does not need to be placed Free and Clear on a bench.

But before you get yourself into panic mode, first determin WHERE the problem lies.
It coukd just as easily be a poor connection on a Spark-Coil.

Head between rudder pedals Wasn't the only option, Bill. The hole in firewall would create working space behind the cover ...to work from underneath cowl reasonably civilized laying on under vehicle crawler. ?

if you could see how all the wires and tubes attached to our 912 run and how our engine mounts work you'd quite possibly agree that what you describe may be close to impossible...or at least far easer said than done.??

indeed! Some things do not follow Murffy's Law...don’t turn out to be worst case.
Reminds me of the quote from Mark Twain: “I’ve had a hard life, and most of it never happened."
(We once had an issue that many said could only be resolved with a head rebuild or a $3000 plus labor new head. Fixed it with a free stainless steel exhaust port sleeve, dab of JB-Weld, and an hour of careful hacking.)
