Questions regarding Toucan “stand alone exhaust system for pusher Rotax 912UL” installed on Powered Parachute.  By "standalone" I mean there are two separate mufflers, not one common muffler for the four clylinders.

1. What is the recommeded torque on bolts attaching pipes to exhaust ports?  Rotax manual says 106-177 in. lbs.  So maybe 140 in. lbs.?

2. Does it matter which cylinder the EGT probes are placed nearest to as long as they’re inserted 100 mm from the exhaust ports and there is one probe on each side of my 4 cylinder Rotax 912UL? In other words could one EGT probe be 100mm from cylinder 3 while the other be located 100mm from cylinder 2 as opposed to cylinders 1 & 2?

The Installation Manual does Not "Recommend" Dual Exhausts.  Chapter 78-00-00, Section 1.1, Page 3.

The Nuts should be Torqued to 15Nm (133 in∙lbs) (140 is Close Enough!)  Chapter 78-00-00, Section 2.2, Page 5.

If you will not be installing 4 probes I would not "Recommend" installing them diagonally.
Install on 1+2 or 3+4, and the most rearward cylinders.  1+2 in the case of a pusher.
It is also recommended that they be installed in the Upper arc of the pipes, Pointed Down, and not from the bottom pointed Up.

Bill,  thanks for your comments!  I had the prior drilled holes (for egt probe and rivets) plugged wield with an argon purging today.  I will reinstall pipes per Rotax and muffler manufaturer's guidance and reintstall the egt's on the number 1 & 2 cylinder exhaust ports (100mm) and keep the probes pointing down.  On my application (and every PPC with a 912UL that I've see) there can't be a common muffler so we havbe to use two mufflers (one on each side).  Have you seen a common muffler used on any other PPC's?

Dual muffers may very well be common on PPCs.
All the points are "Recommendations" and not requirements.
Dual Exhausts are Noisier and Upwards pointing EGT Probes have shorter lives.
Either shortcoming can be lived with.
