Donn, yes the 9 series engines have always been breakerless systems. In the old 2 stroke engines we used ot have points but that was all prior to 1990. 2 strokes started to switch over to CDI at that time. The first 4 stroke 912 engines came on the market in 1989 with CDI ignitions and dual spark plugs (dual system)
