BUDS 4.0 and 914 engine
Now that BUDS 4 supports the 914 engine, is the procedures for log extraction the same as the 912iS?
Thanks

Hi everyone,
I had success pulling logs using BUDS 4.0.0 from a 914 TCU v4.6. I am not trying to figure out the value of the log data. In the fault log for example there were a 100 entries or so, the log has engine time in seconds so I had to convert it to hours and it doesn't automatically log chronologically, I had to sort the data to make sense of it. The parameters it shows is interesting, but the faults to list any fault codes or anything like that so I am curious how to get value from this data.
Anyone have experience or thoughts you could share?
Thanks much,
Rob

Hi Robert,
In this instance, did you use a BUDS dongle or a USB to serial DB9 wire?
I am less than a year since attaining my iRMT and much like a private pilot SEL license, "I can't believe they gave me the certificate and I know so little..."
A license to learn: So I am here at rotax-owner watching video's at 1.7x speed and reading, reading, reading, trying to comprehend what I can.
I have yet to find a dongle. I ASK: (because I really don't know) will a dongle (BUDS set) even work with a 914?
My first Rotax powered aircraft 'patient' had a 914 and I used BUDS and a usb/db9 cable to re-calibrate the TPS after carburetor rebuild and then synchronization. While I did note that the laptop 'gauges' were functional I did not think to see if I could download fault log and clear codes, etc. Perhaps someday I will have opportunity to work on another 914UL2 and I can learn myself.
BUDS level II set's are still 'un-obtainium' as of early April 2024
I am going to Sun N Fun next Tuesday, I sure hope I can find a deal on a BUDSII (or III set) set at the hangar swap or perhaps LEAF or Lockwood will miraculously have them at the show for and arm and merely a few toes.

There is a new version of BUDS available but to answer your question it is very different. Uses a serial cable instead of a buds adapter. Also the procedure is different but it’s intuitive I think.

For the type 914 the new software is free and you do not need the BUDS dongle, just a serial connection to the laptop.
All the instructions are in the latest heavy maintenance manual.
Cheers
