My RV-12 with the Rotax 912 ULS engine was completed in 2013, I am not the builder of the Rv-12. I’m noticing high fuel pressure readings; ie approaching the red line - 6.5 and greater. How do I know which engine driven fuel pump I have? Any thoughts as to why the fuel pressure is that high? Thanks

Your higher than normal pressure, but not over max pressure is more likely caused by a fuel pressure sender issue or a poor connection where the wire connect on the sender. These are the two most common causes. First give the fuel sender spade connectors a squeeze. If that doesn’t work then replace the sender. If the fuel pump is original then it’s past time to replace it.

Thank you so very much. I’ve sent your comments to my A&P/IA. I’m hoping that he’ll be able to check these things for me.

Roger, my A&P/IA reminded me that in July 2021 we replaced the fuel pressure sender - with Kavilco v2. 1/8-27 NPT, 15 PSI. Does this info help with possible solutions to the issues that I now am having? Thank you, sir

    Roger,

You have told me in the past that the first sign of a mechanical pump going bad was weeping at the drain hose. Does the time in use supersede watching the drain?

I have 1000 hours on mine, still produces good pressure and no leaks. The plane has an electric pump that also runs 100% of the time although I have a switch I use in flight to check the mechanical pumps status.

The question is should I replace the mechanical pump regardless?

If that mechanical pump has 1000 hrs. on it then yes I'd replace it. They aren't that expensive and easy to replace.
