Pilot had reported momentary High CT Indication on Rotax 912 S RH Engine during descent on last flight on 11 Jan 2023.

This sudden indication deflection into the red zone occurred for 3s and went normal and happened two more times before coming on and staying on after which Pilot decided to discontinue flight and land.

On checking the flight data log, we observe that E2 CHT1 remains within the green range during the flight and E2 CHT2 starts to log erratic values during that certain period only.

This engine is equipped with 01 CHT Sensor per side. Please note that we have already interchanged the CHT sensors on the engines for troubleshooting and the problem still persists on the RH Engine.

Since you already swapped the probes, it's most likely a wiring issue causing the erratic readings. I would investigate the wiring and see if there is a short to ground somewhere. If the wire is long enough (doubtful), maybe try swapping the wire to the other side to see if the problem switches over.

Since there is no physical explanation why and how, knowing that the cooling liquid is shared by all cylinders while being in a continuous flow, one EGT can actually change erratically for a short period of time whilst the other EGT remains stable wiring and ground are the areas to check. The cause is an electric issue. And such issues can be a real pain.
