Tempest Oil Filter

Good morning!

Quick question, i am looking at 3 separate planes with 912ULS engines and all 3 have the Tempest Oil Filter P/N AA825706. its states "Replaces Rotax Filter for 912/914 engines" .

I see that Aircraft Spruce sells it.

They guy here says "It's approved for Rotax" I rather hear "It's approved by Rotax". I did contact a Rotax rep and was told "NO".

Can anyone shed light on this please? Thank you all again.

The Tempest, Champion or any other after market filter are not approved. The person that told they were approved is wrong. Their issue for one is the low by-pass pressure. Those are 13-15 psi and the Rotax one is 18-22 psi. If you are in warranty and have an issue and they see an after market filter forget help. The difference in price is only $1-$2 so why not just stay with the Rotax filter.

That's what I figured. The wording on the filter was very sketchy. The plane owner kept trying to convince me that those are great filters since aircraft spruce sells them. I told him that no matter what, Rotax said NO.
