Hello!

It's my first time changing the spark plugs in my Rotax 912ULS and I would like to have your advice and help.

-. What is the torque? I have found in the MMH the torque for the new Rotax spark plugs but not sure if that is the same for the NGK DCPR8E

-. What spark plug socket are you using? seems to me that there is very little space between the spark plug and the cylinder wall. Brand, links will be helpful.

-. What electrode gap are you using? There is any document I can read that contains that information?

Thanks for your help!!!!

The plugs can be removed using a standard 16mm spark plug socket. The standard gap is 0.6 - 0.7mm with a wear limit of 0.9mm.

You need to apply the correct thermal transfer compound to the threads and then torque to 20Nm (177in.lb).

All of this is contained in the older issues of the line maintenance manual. I have an old 2011 edition but I don't know where to find them online.

Regarding the spark plug torque, the older manual specified 20 NM on cold engine, whereas the new manual specifies 16 NM on cold engine.  I assume this change applied to both the new style and old style plugs since both have the same thread type, composition, and compression sealing washer. I can't think of a reason the old plugs would need to be torqued higher than the new plugs, so I have been using 16 NM with the NGK plugs.

Don't forget the specified heat paste applied correctly to the threads. Guessing is a good way to cause expensive damage. The factory manuals are free and describe about every possible maintenance procedure. The manuals are available from this site or Rotax. And videos here are also quite instructive.

Thanks Jeffry. It's my fist time changing the spark plugs and I have been reading the manuals, videos, etc. and I have have almost everting I need to use, plugs, spark plugs, thermal paste, socket.. The only piece that I'm trying to find is a torque wrench that can give me the required 16Nm. any ideas, brands, links, etc are more than appreciated.
