Does anyone know what the metric fittings on the 912 series oil tanks are called, I am hoping to convert everything to AN style fittings and doing away with all the barbed fittings so if anyone has done this what adaptors/ fittings did you use?

I did exactly that. The fittings are just silver soldered on to the tank it was easy to change. I do not recall the details did it years ago.

Here in the USA I have never been able to positively identify the metric ball & socket fittings on the Rotax metric oil and fuel lines. You can easily identify if metric or UNF fittings are on your tank and engine.  The metric fittings have a concave shape on the tank side with a matching ball on the hose side.  The UNF (AN) is the opposite, with a convex fitting on the tank and a concave shape on the hose fitting mating surface.

If you are converting to AN hose fittings and you have the metric fittings on your tank and engine, you will need to replace the fittings on the engine case at the oil return line, the oil line at the oil pump, and the two fittings on the oil cooler.  At all these locations the fittings screw in with a sealing washer, so it’s easy and reasonably low cost.  These fittings are available in both UNF (AN) and metric from Rotax and are listed in the Illustrated Parts Catalog.  However, you also need to replace the oil tank cover with one that has UNF fittings. I’m not sure if you can buy the tank cover with fittings separately, or you have to buy the whole tank. I have not tried silver soldering on new fittings to the oil tank as per the previous post, but if you can get fittings that fit and can be soldered, that may be an option also.

There are numerous owners that have done this with just replacing the fittings and not chopping up the system or causing a weak point from their work. I know several that have replaced all the fittings with AN hardware.

    Hi Roger,

That's exactly what I wish to do. I just don't know how to switch the 2 metric fittings on the tank over to AN-8 fittings, the rest of the system is very easy to change as they all have NPT threads.

I was going to say just swap the oil tank top, but I see it isn't available any more. For the oil it really isn't necessary. That said if you want to Aircraft Specialty sells an adapter.
