Oops - forgot to check for other posts with same content....

I got my answer - prefill the cooler (small amount, I guess), let the oil bleed through

a small hole in the thermostatic valve. And if I want to be REALLY sure,

I can heat the thermostat...

Hi.

Tomorrow I'll fit new oil lines. So I'll of course purge the system.

But, since a thermostat is blocking oil entry into the oil cooler -

and the oil cooler is first step after the reservoir - how can I get the air out?

I have a 914 on a Auto-Gyro MTO Sport gyrocopter...

Cheers

    Hi Erik

You need to know what type of oil thermostat you have, brand name, and check with them.  All the ones I have every worked with have a bleed, none shut down the flow completely.  That said the pressure purge that Rotax shows will work just fine.  The normal internal bleed is 10% bypass.  This is to stop any shock cooling of the oil when it opens to allow flow into the system.  Check your supplier of the thermostat.

    Cheers
