912iS installed in an RV-12iS.  About 270 hours

Data point is only in cold weather, so don't know if temp has an effect on the problem below.

Upon start, no generator amps present.  Increasing RPM to ~ 2400_ish, Gen B comes on-line as it normally does.

I'll run the engine for a couple minutes, shut down, restart - Then Gen A is on line at the beginning and then Gen B comes on-line at about 2400 RPM.

To summarize:  Gen A doesn't come on-line at initial startup, but does come online after a bit of warmup/shutdown/restart.

All other elec seems to be normal.

Thoughts from the brain trust??

Thanks Much!!

    Mike:

One of the functions of the Fuse box is to select at all times which Gen is feeding the engine. This is done from a signal comming from the ECU (when RPMs are in the range of 2400) commands the internal logic of the Fusebox. Check the 3 relays inside the ECU for good working. If they are good and problem still happens, try to find another fusebox and replace yours.

Always refer to the ECU-Fusebox chapter of the Rotax Heavy maintenance manual 912iS.

Please review the installation manual.  The engine starts on B lane, not A.  A must be excited from B and that takes advancing the RPM to about 2400 to 2500 RPM.

Also note that a reset of a lane failure can only be done with a full power down of the engine.  There is a schematic that shows the relays in the installation manual and what they are connected with.  Each relay is available separately, see the parts manual.

    Cheers
