I just took delivery of a Pipistrel Virus SW with a 912iS Engine and constant speed prop controller. I have seen an issue that I am trying to troubleshoot.

I can get the RPM up to 5500 on takeoff using the fine pitch control, however, if I land and then try to takeoff again, I cannot get more than 4800 RPM unless the aircraft is shut down and wait a few minutes.

I also notice that when pushing to full power on takeoff, there is a definite lag in the power before it starts to increase. When the RPM's fail to get above 4800, not only is there a lag, but there is a noticeable difference in the sound when it goes to full power, which is obviously because it is not running the same RPM's.

I am suspecting the prop controller or fuel injection.

Could use any comments or troubleshooting suggestions.

    Hi Shane,

I don't pretend to know the exact cause, but would lean towards the controller at first until proven otherwise. I think I would be calling the dealer in the morning.

That is the way Pipistrel is leaning. Roger, I did want to ask a question, if you can advise:

The lag that I notice when going from idle to full power. Is this normal with the fuel injected 912?

    Hi Shane,

If the prop and engine is setup properly then when you slap that throttle forward you should have a rapid and instant rpm increase. It shouldn't bog down, hesitate or take its sweet time spooling up.
