Hi guys.
I'm still working on the installation of the 912iS on my MCR-4s.
I will also install a Garmin G3X touch.
I have a question about the wiring of the Lane A/B CAN buses to the G3X GEA24 EIS.
Rotax installation manual clearly warns NOT TO connect lane A/B together to a single instrument. Doing so, you loose redundancy, and in case of problem on one lane/wiring you may loose all the information. However, that's exactly what Garmin does to connect the GEA24 !?!
Some of you have this configuration, do you know how it's done on your A/C ? Maybe 2 GEA24 connected ? Or did you disregard Rotax warning and wire it as Garmin says ?

    Hi Robert,
    I do not know my installation was a factory install. I have always assumed that Garmin provided separate pins for Lane A and B and then optically isolated them internally in the GEA24. Is this not the case ?.
    There is a G3X Employee/Guru hanging out on a Van's (VAF forums)site that answers technical questions, perhaps he will know.

    Hi Robert,
    I wired both my Lane A and Lane B HIC Connectors to the single pins on the GEA 24 by splicing them together. Specifically to GEA pin 17 for the High side and pin 33 for the Low wires. This is how SteinAir drew up the wiring diagram for me. If there a better method, I would sure like to hear about it. If you email G3Xpert, one of the guys may be able to look in to it. 912iS’s are a super small market for Garmin so they don’t seem to be all that responsive to the likes of us. If enough of us talk to them, maybe we will get a little more recognition.

    the Advanced 5600 wiring diagram shows both lanes to the same connector pin. I wired mine that way and have had no problem for
    2 1/2 years.

    Hi Robert,
    I have the same setup and no problems after 220 hrs.

    If the pins you talked about were the power pins or earth from Lane A&B and there was a short there could be a problem.

    However if those are just CAN-BUS ie data lines then you could short them put 500 V across them and still have no problem. The Can was developed to be a very fault tolerant data serial bus and it should not matter.

    PS I have been having an email discussion with G3Xpert on another matter and he is very responsive and helpful

    Has anyone talked to Garmin/G3Xpert as to whether they might be adding diagnostic information similar to what Dynon has done for the 912is? A 912is is in my near future, and probably a Garmin G3x, but I like what Dynon is doing with their Rotax 912is support.
