I want to install an Oil Pressure switch on my 912iS.

There appears to be an oil port that is used to supply the oil to the optional Propeller Governor that is unused.
The port in question is in the upper corner of the Oil Pump on the side opposite the Oil Filter.
This would be the Upper Left corner of the Oil Pump as viewed from the Prop/Gearbox end of the engine.

Is this a valid location to sense oil pressure?
Are there other locations on the engine that are preferred?

    Hi Bill,

Your engine should have come with an oil pressure sender mounted right next to this port you are talking about. Are you running your engine without an oil pressure indication?

I guess we need a little more info.

There is an Oil Pressure Sender and an Oil Temperature Sender located just behind the #3 Cylinder on a 912iS.
The Oil Pressure Sender on a 912ULS is mounted on the side of the Oil Pump.
This Port has not been machined on the 912iS. See Photo.

It seems reasonable that as the 'ULS Pressure sender is located here, The 'iS would have the same functionality.
I am just making sure by double checking with the experts.

I need to sense when the engine is actually running, and not just electrically powered up.
I am attaching an Oil Pressure Switch (On/Off,~5Psi) primarily to operate a Mechanical TT Clock
but also a separate alarm to signal an Oil pressure Failure.

If I understand the question correctly.

If you have a digital instrument panel then your 912is engine should only tick off time when you have oil pressure. I don't think you need another oil pressure switch.

    Rob, what do you think?

    p.s.
That is an oil port in your picture.

no problem to install a hobbs switch into that port. (you are correct; it is for the hydraulic governor and to feed the turbo)
