    Thanks all.

I should have included this picture.
(top row is Master switch, start power, backup battery, Lane A, Lane B )

    {option}

As you can see here, my options are limited to deciding if the start power switch should be toggle or momentary.
I'm still leaning towards the momentary type. If Lane A/B is switched on, and then start power is held on, it should be easy to check the Lane indicators and press the engine start button. As soon as the engine starts, you can move either hand to adjust the throttle.
I still believe that Rotax specified a momentaty type for a reason. And I guess it is the ECU check at startup.

    Kind regards, Claus

put a momentary toggle start-power next to the Start button? then you have a hand free for the throttle.

    Claus,

I thought you were in the design phase and did not already have a working panel.

(Note: I can see the photo in both posts).

I would not try to redesign the panel.
There is no reasonable way to hold both switches and keep a hand on the throttle with the current layout.
When ready to start, Enable the Start Power Switch.
Then, without undue delay, press the start button with one hand while the other is on the throttle.
Once The engine is running and the Lane Lights Clear, Disable the Start Power.

There is no reason to leave the Start Power switch enabled for any longer than it takes to Start the engine.
    The Checklist should look like...

    ...
    Advance Throttle as Needed.
    Start Power ON
    CLEAR!
    Verify Both Lane Lights ON.
    START!
    Retard Throttle as needed.
    Verify Both Lane Lights Extinguish.
    Start Power OFF.
    Verify Oil Pressure.
    ...

    When the Lane Lights Extinguish,
The Generators are working, the Oil Pressure is Good, the Engine is Happy.
    This is your All-Systems-Good Indication!

Visually Checking the Oil Pressure is just to give you that Warm Fuzzy Feeling. :)
