I have a situation where it would be very tidy to run 5052 aluminum tubing directly to the Rotax Fuel Pump inlet (912is Sport).  The fuel pump assembly is mounted rigidly to the airframe but I still have some concern about vibration and work hardening of the aluminum fuel line. The Rotax pump assembly has a bit of natural vibration damping due to the short rubber hose segments used to assemble the fittings to the pumps.  Are others running solid fuel line directly to this pump assembly?

We have a solid fuel line to the pump assembly in the RV-12iS.

    Just to be clear...

You are talking about the Fuel Hose from the Coarse Filter to the INLET of the Pump Assembly and NOT from the Pump OUTLET going towards the engine?

Yes, I’m talking about from the coarse filter to the pump inlet. In my aircraft the pump is removed from the Rotax enclosure and mounted in a compartment under the wing (low wing aircraft).  The coarse filter is also mounted in that compartment.  The compartment is tight and the fuel line makes a 180 degree turn between the coarse filter and pump inlet.  The factory used a braided Teflon flex line but it’s a tighter bend than the recommended minimum radius for that line.  A steel or aluminum solid line bent to fit would work better with no chance of collapse.  I would need an LOA but that’s doable.  Thanks for your response.

So long as the filter and pump cannot have relative movement....even rubber mounting the filter or having a short 20mm rubber section after the 180 degree turn.

Consider even Rotax has multiple rubber elements in the pump assembly even though there should be no relative movement....vibration can very quickly crack metal pipework...

Thanks Jon. Is it shown that way on the plans for the RV-12 or is that decision up to the builder?
