This is a Service Instruction, not a Service Bulletin. The reason for this Service Instruction is the following: In the course of further development and standardization, the location of stator oil spray has been changed to optimize stator cooling.

Compliance: NONE - For Information Only

All measures must be implemented and confirmed by at least one of the following persons or organizations:

    - ROTAX® - Airworthiness representatives

    - ROTAX® - Authorized Distributors or their independent Service Centers

    - Persons approved by the respective Aviation Authorities

    - Persons with approved qualifications for the corresponding engine types.

Only authorized persons (iRMT, Level Heavy Maintenance) are entitled to carry out this work

    - Persons with type-specific training

It does not state in the Service Instruction that this task MUST be accomplished. We suggest accomplishing the SI if it is convenient to do so (Engine not installed in aircraft, other work being performed in that area of the engine)

Okay, I had to laugh for a bit; this SI is very similar to a recall done on my 1998 Ducati ST2 motorcycle in about 1999 for what is essentially the same stator. IMO, whether you do the change or not depends on your intended use. For at least the 912/914 Lockwood recommends drawing no more than 12A (~150W) continuously to avoid overheating and failure. If you're going simple day VFR, it's probably okay as is. Load up with all the gizmos and/or pitot heat, better do it now to avoid trouble later. Heavy continuous loads, again IMO, require the second, belt-driven alternator regardless.
