Explaining the Rotax 912iS oil pump and pressure system:

The engine utilizes a dry sump forced lubrication system and integrates a trochoid oil pump equipped with an integrated pressure regulator. This pump draws engine oil from the oil tank and, when needed, the optional oil cooler, and then propels it through the oil filter to various lubrication points within the engine. Additionally, the oil pressure is regulated by a pressure relief valve consisting of a piston and spring. Any excess oil that arises due to this regulation is redirected back to the pump rotor through an internal bypass duct within the oil pump.

The oil pressure exhibits the following variations:

    • Minimum: 0.8 bar (12 psi) when the engine operates at speeds below 3500 rpm.
    • Normal: 2.0 to 5.0 bar (29-73 psi) when the engine operates at speeds above 3500 rpm.

The oil pressure sensor is positioned below the starter motor, and the readings from this sensor are transmitted by the Engine Control Unit (ECU) via the CAN Lane signal to the pilot display.
