Parameters for instrumentation

I'm in the process of building a gyroplane with a new 912is.  While the engine documentation has provided me with most of the parameters I need for the EMS gauge, on some (like coolant temp and EGT) it only provides a maximum number. What is the common methodology for handling those? Just leave it Green from 0 to Max and Red at Max+1? (Or maybe yellow a few degrees below max?). Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.
