Getting ready to do an Oil Change on my 915is. The Maintenance Manual is foggy on sequence.  Should it be checked before or after putting on the new oil filter.  How much oil will drain out and will I have to purge the system since it is on the very bottom of the engine.

    Hi Gene

Yes the info is lacking.  They fixed it in the 916 MML, use that info as they are the same parrts.

    Cheers

It doesn’t matter whether you inspect the turbo filter screen before or after installing a new engine oil filter. A small amount of oil will come out, so be sure to have a container ready to capture it.

You do not need to purge the oil or turbo system after inspecting the turbo oil screen.

However, purging the oil system is necessary in the following situations:

    • With the initial installation of a new engine
    • After reinstallation (e.g., after overhaul)
    • After maintenance work where the lubrication system was opened and emptied (e.g., removal of the oil tank, oil cooler, or replacement of oil lines)

It is not required to purge the oil system when draining the oil tank, removing the oil filter, or inspecting the turbo screen.
