Hello

Does the factory or any owner have a 3D model of the 915 is engine which we can download / purchase?

We use Autodesk Inventor software but we can take in other formats.

We have a 912 3D model but having now taken delivery of the new 915 is engine, we see quite a few changes which will chew up a lot of modelling hours.

And 3D scanners are still way too expensive with iffy results.

    Rod,

I have not seen a 915 model, but maybe these can help you piece it together.  Grabcad.com has a model of a 912is, which will have a similar fuel injection system, airbox and fuel rails. There are no Autocad files currently posted, only STP, STEP and Solidworks files. However, they do have STP files of many separate components. Gradcad also has a 914 engine, which would have a similar turbocharger and exhaust, unfortunately again, no Autocad files.

    Jeff

    Thanks for the info Jeff.

Obviously 3D models exist within Rotax as a company so I'm a little surprised that a "Shell" 3D model (no internals) is not available to assist design engineers in the process of incorporating a Rotax product into a design which is ultimately destined for production and hence more sales of their product.

Is there a way of contacting the relevant department within Rotax so that we don't have to chew hours constructing a full space model.

If its concerns of reverse engineering that's failed already since we have just taken delivery of nearly A$ 70k worth of 915 engine with ancillaries.

The  'shell' 3D models you seek are available to authorized OEM builders. Just contact your local ROTAX distributor - see https://dealerlocator.flyrotax.com/

    Hello,
Have you found a solution for the 3D model?
I'm also facing this question for a cover development.
If you have a simple solution, I'd be interested.

    Hello Rod

Unfortunately I see you live in Australia.  Currently they are going into a change of distributor and this is whom you would have to get a copy from.  In the USA and Latin America you can request one from RFSC, Rotax Flying and Safety Club.  They send you an NDA and can then supply a file.  Given it is not an open source file they do not publish it online.  This was how Rotax said they wanted to deal with such files.

I would recommend you contact CFS in the UK for support.  It is my understanding they will be taking over for Bert Flood shortly.

    Cheers
