Recently Tecnam created a SB for its fleet of 912 S engines fitted to the P2008.  In it they have found reports of activation of the soft start when running and believe it to be the cause of RPM loss in flight.  It is my understanding that they requested EASA to issue an AD (for certified users of the 912S powered P2008 aircraft.  The AD and the bulletin both state this is under investigation.  Many people commented on the forum and asked if they should disable the soft start on other aircraft types of similar engines, such as the 912 ULS (non certified version of the S)

The subject has been brought to the attention of Rotax and is currently under investigation by a task group.  Currently they are waiting for details from the field and will look into the issue as things develop.  At this time no other aircraft seem to be affected and no serial range or other data is available.  Other factors must be investigated also as there is nothing suppled currently directly to Rotax other than reports from Tecnam.

/there is no data to suggest any action is required at this time on the fleet regarding soft start.  The system has been in use for more than a decade and all reports suggest it works as designed.  It is premature for Rotax to comment as the work has only just been assigned to the group to work on the complaints.

Should there be any additional data we can bring it forward to those in the forum who are following this.

Cheers
