Hi RW,

I'm fairly sure I know the answer to this, but would like to be 100% and on solid ground.

Question:

If you have been using the older NGK VD05FMH on your engine and have 1-2 fail do all need to be replaced with the new PVL cap. I know we usually never mix caps.

It’s a great question Roger.  This happened on my aircraft and I bought all eight of the new style caps. You would think you could just replace the failed caps with NGK VD05FMH caps available aftermarket, but I figured that because Rotax no longer supports them, and distributors no longer sell them, the proper thing to do was make the upgrade.  I do like that the new caps are silicone, whereas the old caps were EPDM rubber and more prone to heat damage.

I guess this same question could be applied the plugs themselves. The difference is that some of the Rotax distributors still sell the old style NGK plugs, which seems to give people license to keep using them even though they are not approved for Rotax aircraft engines.  We will see what RW says.

    Hi all

The original release had verbiage to that effect, change them all.  From the technical point the resistance values are the same so it makes no difference from an electrical point.  I have no idea, other than is looks nice, why it possibly would change anything.

    Cheers
