Hello my name is John Keigans. I will be moving to the Charleston SC area in January and I was wandering what the demand for my services would be. I am an A&P mechanic with my Inspection Authorization liscense. I have 27 years experience as a technician and have owned my own FBO for eight years. I have lots of light sport experience and have serviced many Rotax engines. My reason for this question is because I am planning to attend a formal Rotax maintenance training school. I do not wish to spend the money for extra training and tooling if there will be little or no work. My plan is to provide Condition Inspections to airframes and powerplants, repairs and adjustments to all Rotax engines, and complete overhauls to all Rotax engines. Anyway, I am new to this group and look forward to meeting some of you all at Sun n Fun.

    Hi John,

The best thing to do is get on several LSA forums and let people know you are there. get out to the surrounding airports and let them know you are there. Get on forums and help with some technical things to let people know you are there. All this is free and it's the only way to get your name out their. After your Rotax school make a name for yourself as doing an above average job it really does pay off.

    Hi John,

There is definitely work on your side of the country. You just have to get out a let people know. I have been hearing for the last year about a lot of dissatisfaction with a few big outfits and quite a few people were looking for the smaller, "cheaper" and more specialized shops. Threat them like family and not a number and they will come back and spread the word.
Originally I just wanted to be able to legally do my own work. Now 3 years later I have owners come from 6 different states and do at least 30 annuals a year plus just a lot of smaller general maint.

The big difference is treating every plane likes it's your own and let the owner know it by your work ethics and attention to detail and word will spread quick.
