I've reported this error before. It is again being discussed in the LSRM forums and other mechanics have verified that Rotax has an error in their Line Maintenance Manual that can lead to engine stop. We consider this very serious. Others have also reported to Rotax. Error has existed for over two years now that I know of. Discussed in Level 1 & 2 class, but everyone expected a correction would follow.

Please advise if there is any better way to report this.
--------------------------------------
Section 10.2 Mechanical synchronization
Basic throttle adjustment (min idle set against the stop)
Step 5 is wrong. Written "counter clockwise" and should be "clockwise".
Counter clockwise would back scew out, increasing the gap - leading to possible engine stop at power reduction. Should be clockwise, bringing screw into contact with stop, raising absolute idle minimum. Manual Effectivity: 912 Series
Manual Edition 3 / Rev. 0 12-20-00 page 32n September 01/2012

Any other ideas on how to report this to Rotax?

This error in the 912 Line Maintenance Manual has been previously reported to the factory.

Unfortunately, the error still exists in the newest recent release of the manual.
The omission of this change, as well as it's importance has been reported to the Rotax factory documentation department.

Thank you for your attention to these important details.

    Rotax Owner.

    Thanks RO!

Is there a way for an owner to submit directly to the factory? This error is going to kill somebody.

I think that is a little extreme; standard practice is to do a run up after maintenance, including an idle speed check, before flying the aircraft.

    Hi Dave,

There are a few small items like this in the manuals. Why some get fixed and some don't I don't know.
This has been reported for a number of years. I have done it myself. It's just the idle screw set point. If you do maint and adjust the screw or do a carb sync then you are supposed to run the engine. If it doesn't idle then it should be adjusted. Any body who does a carb sync should have no issue realizing it's the wrong way since you couldn't sync the carbs at idle going the wrong way and you wouldn't accomplish a mechanical sync. If it was hard to find then so many wouldn't have already noticed it and if it was dangerous it would have lead to an issue already.

    Thanks Roger.

I noticed that this can be missed after synch on run up testing until throttle control cables settle in a bit. Then it's more apparent.
