Strange a better solution has not been offered. seems many have this issue.

This type of connector is used billions of times, all over the world, on everything from the latest car to to your computer or washing machine. The reason is it is a simple, foolproof method of making a sound temporary connection, but like anything, if it is not assembled correctly it won't work.

How could you possibly improve this.

of those billions I have fitted a few.. and foolproof would not be my choice of word for THIS situation. the position of the regulator on this model is where the manufacturing could possible improve

When used correctly and knowing its limitations it should work and not be a problem. I think misunderstandings may contribute to its issues. Things like replacement after bending the tab too many times, how the tab works and failing to not push the large black reg/rec plug in far enough to make a solid insertion into the spade. There are ways to check it after it is inserted to make sure it is solid. Once inserted into a socket pull on the wire to make sure the tab is engaged. When inserting the large black plug into the reg/rec use two hands and squeeze it down hard and you can even feel the spades coming together. You can use a very small tipped screwdriver and push on the spade connector from the rear of the housing and see if it is seated all the way. I see people all the time push the large black plug into the reg/rec and call it good. I reach down and pull on a yellow wire and it slides out. Just make sure it is seated and locked in place and it should be fine.

If you don't use the spade connector with the little locking tab built in, it can,and eventually will, come loose.

With the self locking spade properly installed, it will not come out. I have pulled the wires out of the spade and the spade still wouldn't release without depressing the locking tab.

Even using the spade with the locking tab, if you put the spade in the plastic plug facing the wrong way, it sometimes won't lock in.

When assembled properly, it's a pretty reliable connection.
