We use 91 Octane mogas in our 912uls rotax while at home airport and when abroad we will use TCP with 100LL. I know little about Decalin and would like to know which one is better and why.

Thanks

    Hi Richard,

TCP is no longer acceptable in a Rotax 912. They put it in writing, I just can't remember off the top of my head the bulletin number. It has caused some issues due to some harsh chemicals.

Decalin on the other hand doesn't have chemicals that are quite as harsh, it can be carried in the cockpit and does as good a job as a lead scavenger. Decalin cost about $18-$20 for a bottle. You use 1/2 oz. per 10 gal. of 100LL. Use it, it makes a difference if you use 100LL.

Has Decalin been accepted by Rotax?

Nothing in writing that I know of. If someone else knows different please chime in. There is nothing that says you can't use it like TCP. A very large number of SLSA aircraft in the US uses it with 100LL. I know most of the Flight Design fleet here in the US uses it with 100LL. That said most of us also try and stay as far away from 100LL as possible. We only get stuck with it on trips.

TCP was a cause of the diaphragm in the fuel pump failing.
