Just read the topic about pre heating a 912 and it made me think,

Not so much pre heating before startup but how long to wait before going to take off power with a 2 stroke after startup,

I have an fan air cooled 503 on a trike....I'm alway consious of cold seizing the motor by rushing to get into the air without warming the motor properly...but are there any hard and fast rules of how long to warm up a 2 stroke,

I have a both Duel CHT and EGTs.

    Nick,

Cold seizures are not as likely with an aircooled engine. They are more often seen in water cooled engines. Your engine should be brought up to at least the minimum cyl. head temp. which is about 350f.

Hi bill...I think that the thing that bothers me...on the ground waiting for it to warm up (around 10mins) it struggles to reach 260f and around 345f in the air a cruise power...around 4900rpm,

Experimented with prop pitch giving it more with only a slight increase in CHT,

Can you think of any reason why it would run at what seems to be cool temps...EGTs are more normaly at around 1150f cruise.

    Nick,

Only two things I can think of that might cause the cool running. Mixture is too rich or temp gauge is reading wrong. How are the EGTs?

In the cruise about 1100f Bill.

    Nick,

If you have the spark plug ring type cyl. head temp sensor, you can take it off the spark plug and dip it in boiling water and see if it reads 212f. If it doesn't, then the gauge or sensor is out of calibration. Just put the ring in the water, not the wires. Don't have to run the engine. Just turn the gauge on.

    EGTs are OK.

Does the engine run that cool in hot weather?

    Bill.
