My engine has now go 1150 hours on it and the gearbox was inspected at 500 hours when it was fitted with a slipper clutch, everything is running OK but am wondering what could be needed looking at in the box.

The 914 gearbox has a scheduled inspection every 1000hrs so if your gearbox had a thorough inspection at 500hrs you are not due yet.
The splines, gearset and doghub need to be inspected for wear. The clutch should be disassembled, cleaned and re-set. Normally the springs are replaced (they have a inspection protocol but they are cheap so just replace them as a matter of course)
I would not put off this maintenance; catching wear before it gets too far can save you a lot of money. The small gear in particular can cause a lot of grief: even one pit that has broken through the case hardening can cause very high, damaging harmonics. (this has not been much of an issue in the past 10 years but back in 1998-2002 it was rampant with owners using poor quality oil and excessive low idle times).

If you are running a 912/914 series engine on Avgas and have a slipper clutch fitted there is a requirement to have an additional inspection at 600Hrs as well as the 1000Hr inspection pointed out by Rob.

Not directly relating to this query, but anyone who does not have a slipper (overload) clutch in their gearbox, the maintenance intervals are 600Hrs.
