Thanks for clarifying that for me. I am doing my 5 yr rubber and now is the time to make a change. My system has a thermostatis and I was thinking of removing it. I do not like the idea of any flow restrictions or failures. Keep it simple is my moto. Other than the shorter warm up times are there any other benefits? Is there a risk of failure to be concerned about?

Really shouldn't be any risk adding or removing the thermostat. The thermostat is supposed to be just for faster warm up times and maintaining a minimal operational temp. I just put a piece of 2" aluminum tape over the radiator and my winter time oil temps are usually 205F-215F. I see 200F once in a great while on cold mornings. That last statement needs to be taken with a grain of salt since I live in Tucson, AZ and I don't think we had a freezing day this winter which was fine by me.

If it gets below 72F I'm looking for a jacket and if it gets to 25F I'm looking for anti freeze for my morning drink.

good point, I don't fly in anything less than 20 F
That has been a treat this winter, we did not get above that until last week.
Should be good now until next winter, once I get it back together that is. I think I will leave it in for those lovely cold days.

If I had a choice, I'd go for the pre-heat over thermostat every time.....
