I just purchased a SportStar with the 912ULS (2005).

I have heard mechanics say to NOT run the engine at full power (ours generates 5,000 RPM in climb) for more than 5 minutes. But I can't seem to find anything in the POH about this and no specific documentation on how to do it. If you are going to 8,500 you will need to climb for about 12 minutes. Does anyone know if it is necessary to regard the throttle during climb, and if so, at what power setting and for how long for resuming full power?

    Hi Ed,

With this engine you should have all 5 manuals which can be found and downloaded from this site under support. I would speed read them all to know where to look for info on questions that may pop up. I would really read the Operators and Line Maint. manual cover to cover. This will go a long ways to how to operate and maintain your engine and dispel rumors you may hear along the way. The answer you are looking for may not be in your POF from the aircraft MFG, but it is in the Rotax Operation manual and some older SB's.

5 minutes above 5500 to 5800. You can run continuously at 5500. climbing at 5000-5500 can happen all day to 8500"' if that's where you are headed. The limiting factor may be engine and oil temps. This seems to be dependent on which make and model plane you have.
