Have run into VERY strange problem helping a friend. First hopefully simple question. What is considered the RIGHT side of the 912. I assume if at the rear of the engine, prop flange in front, your right is the right side. Engine not running well. Took carbs apart. Carb enrichener disc shafts are marked L & R in inside toward carb. I would think in a tractor mode, the left carb should have an enrichener disc shaft marked with an L. R for right carb. These were backward from that. No idea how that could happen. Am I assuming correctly ?

    Hi John,

The right side is always determined as if you were seated in the plane looking forward. Your right side then is the same as your right arm. Even if we were out of the plane and looking back towards the tail the right side is still the same as if you were still seated in it. The "L" marking on the choke shaft is for cylinders 1&3. The "R" is for cylinders 2&4.

Yours are correct. Don't swap them. Watch this video.

Ok. So L is on Right carb, and R is on left carb. Should the disc be very smooth ? The one is not real smooth. Like machining marks on it. Not precision, just arcing lines.

The marks are fine, but when you turn the choke shaft it should turn smooth and fairly easy. It shouldn't have rough spots that kind of make it catch and stumble..

Thanks Roger. I found the problem. Made lots of sense after I found it. The idle jet was plugged. I thought I was seeing thru it, but wasn't. Had to use over 100# of air to blow it out. Carb cleaner did not do it. Just unusual. Very tiny bore in jet. Have to look very carefully. Thanks again.

    Hi John,

When I do carb work I take a 16 ga. wire and strip it back a couple of inches. Then I take only one little strand of all those and use that to kind of rod out and clean any hard caked deposits out of that tiny hole then I follow it with cleaner and air.
