I am in need of replacing my "lord rubber bushing mounts" due to dry rot. I have received an estimate from a Rotax Service Center of 1200$.
Engine has 360 TT . There is no vibration issue. The engine is a 2008
And when I performed the 5 year rubber hose replacement I saw no need
To replace the rubber bushing. That was three years ago.

Does anyone have an idea on the complexity and labor estimate to
Do this job. I am fully capable of handling myself but don't have the time.

Thanks, Bob

    Hi Bob,
    What kind of plane?

Your mounts are now 10 years old and should have been done at the 5 year hose change. Total hours does play a part going through hot heating cycles, but time alone will cause mounts to harden and rot just from the Ozone in the air. Any chemicals like oil, fuel or other cleaners will cause degradation to. having an exhaust pipe too close to an engine mount will cause quicker degradation. I just bought some Lord mounts from Aircraft Spruce and they were $20 each. I bought 16 for $284. I sell Flight Design mounts and those are $90 for the set.
The rubber engine mounts should get replaced at the 5 year rubber change time table. I have never seen any Lord mounts that expensive nor I have seen anyone charge that much. Most planes can do the job with the engine in place and maybe be slightly supported by a hoist when you loosen the bolts. The Flight Design CT needs to have the engine removed, but that's why you do it at hose change when the engine comes off anyway.

If it is a Rotax Mount...

    The Rubber Shock Mounts (PN.860690) are $108 a piece. x8 = $864.
    The Metal Cup Washers (PN.944240) are $55 a piece. x8 = $440
That makes the full set over $1300 plus shipping and taxes. Ouch!!!

The good news is that a Shock Mount Set (PN.860695) that include 8 of each part is Only (and I use that term loosely!) $773 (Not as big of an Ouch!)

$1200 - $773 leaves $400+ for labor costs. Ouch again!
I can't see it taking more than an hour or so if you do not have to remove the engine.

What kind of plane is it?

I know I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this because it's not by the book, but
Lord mount J-3608-1 about $20 each (8=$160). The meal cup washers could be reused or buy new. New set of washers is $60. Occasionally I do find 1-2 tweaked in the center. If they are slightly bent in the center a hammer and a flat piece of steel like on top of a vise will straighten them back to normal.
I do think engine mounts should be changed at the 5 year rubber change as a good maint. practice.

    Hi Bill,
I think the $60 is for the set and not each.

    Roger,

I agree! I would like to think that they are $60 for 8 and not Each, but I think they might be priced Each.

Lockwood is listing the Rubber Mounts at $30 Each and the Cup Washers at $20 (Each?)

    The washers should be reusable.
Worse case; Bead Blasting and a coat of paint would make them as pretty as new.

$240 for a set of 8 Rubber Shock Mounts feels a lot better!
