Hi All

I recently bought a new europa trigear with a 912ul engine.... need to replace a few hoses both in the oil and coolant system so i have a few questions that im hoping you can help with!

I need to drain down the coolant and replace with waterless with standard 50/50 mix, according to the manual i need to flush the system with pure water under a pressure of 2bar. In simple terms how do i achieve that??

I also need to pull a hose off the oil cooler and reroute it after the previous owner routed it up against an exhaust causing it to burn through the heat sheild, If i do so do i need to also purge the oil system, and again if so in simple terms how do i achieve that ?

Kind Regards
Eoin

If this is your 1st rotax powered aircraft you should take the line maintenance course. There is a video on the oil purge on this site and I would drain and refill the coolant system a couple of times with distilled water and then refill with 50/50.

    Thanks Garrett

When draining the coolant do i need to purge the system (and if so how do i actually do it? Or is it just a case of dropping a hose at the lowest point letting it drain through, and then refilling it when everything is reconnected ?

If it is just the coolant yes you can pull a lower hose and drain, then reconnect and refill. If you think it needs it you can flush with distilled water. The coolant system does not seem to trap any air but I always check it after the 1st warm up and cool down before the aircraft is returned to safe flight.

    Thanks Garrett

All done today...drained by dropping a hose at the lowest point, flushed with distilled water and refilled with a 50/50 mix (1.5ltrs) as per the line maintenance manual. How would i know if its trapped air?

Run it and check the expansion tank. I doubt you’ll find anything. I never do.
