The valves guides in #3 of the 2,500-hr 912 ULS in my 2007 Sting appear to be leaking and starting to result in spark-plug fouling. Compression is still good in all cylinders--at 85-86/87. I'm doing a test now, to see how many hours it takes to foul the plugs in #3. So far, it is 10 hours--and counting.

Can the valve guides only be replaced? Are they pressed in? What about a new head, valves, and valve guides (about $2100 for parts)? Is it wise to do just one cylinder--or are the others likely starting to leak too (plugs don't indicate so)? Is getting the old guides out, a specialist's job?

Just trying to map out my options, including whether it may finally be time for a new engine.
