The new spark plug connectors have largely been left out of the conversations regarding the new spark plugs.  From what I can tell, the old connector (265-248) is no longer being sold.  And since you can’t mix and match the new and old connectors, if you have one go bad you need to replace all eight with the new style.  The new connector (265-249) is advertised as “Suppressed”.  Were the old ones also suppressed or are the new ones of a different resistance value?

    Hi Jeff

Both the NGK and the PVL connector have a 5K ohm resistor internally.  Given that Rotax can no longer use the NGK all new engines and new stock are now the PVL brand.  There is no technical reason you could not mix them as the resistors are the same value.  The major difference is the slight angle change from the NGK 45 (I think that is what it is) to the PVL 90 degree connection.  Please be careful when pulling on any of the connectors, it should be done on the main barrel by the plug rather than on the angle.  This will reduce damage to the resistor internally.

    Cheers

Thank you for the response, I suspected the connector resistance would have to be the same since Rotax allows the use of either connector with either plug.  The NGK spark plug specs indicates it also has a 5K Ohm resister.  That information is not published for the new Rotax plug, but I measured a couple and they read 6K Ohms.  So both combinations are very similar, using suppressors in both the connector and plug.
