HELP!! I have a 582 placed inverted on my EBA 2/3 Jenny, it used to run very smooth in Bogota (8500 MSL), and flew great. I took the airplane to an aeroclub 1500 MSL and lately it is not running so smooth. Very nice idle at 2200 rpm, when I start pushing the throtle up and reaches 3100 3150 rpm, the back cylinder stops burning (EGT drops) and when I get it to run near 4000 rpm, it fires again and runs beautifully up to 6000 rpm. When decelerating happens just the same. There´s a range between 3000 and 4000 rpm when the back cylinder won´t go. Somebody, please, enlight me??

    Carlo,

If you were running well at 8500MSL, It could be that your carbs are leaned out to run at that altitude and may now be running too lean at the lower altitude. The whole problem sounds like its in the midrange, which would be a jet needle setting. If you raise the jet needle one notch (move the needle clip down one notch) that will enrich the midrange (3000 to 4000 rpm approx.) without affecting the idle or the upper end mixture.

I'm with Bill. Sounds like you should be checking the carbs for a lean situation. (needle and jet)

    Carlo,

If you are not sure how to do this, go to the California Power Systems website and look under tech info for article #52, "rebuilding the Bing carb". It explains exactly how to change the needle setting and has pictures to help. You don't have to remove the carbs to do this. Only thing I would caution you about is to be sure to get the needle and clip in the proper position UNDER the plastic spring cup. I think the article explains about this also.

Bill and Roger, Thank you very much for your reply. As a matter of maintenance, I brought down the carbs, cleaned everything and set the needles for the lower altitude, the first few times I ran the engine it was OK, the problem has come up lately. Could there be another reason?, electrical?, fuel injection?, etc?. Again thank you very much for your time.

    Carlo,

Still sounds like a fuel problem. What are the EGTs on that cylinder at the upper and lower end of the RPMs? Are they close to the same temp. as the good cylinder?
