I am having some problems with my 582 when at idle (~2000-2300rpm)for less than a minute the carbs flood and the engine stops. Keeping the rpm higher prevents this but I am not sure where to go with this. Mechanical adjustments have been checked and double checked. Float fuel level seems a bit high to me but I hesitate to modify float level tabs for obvious reasons.
Any suggestions?

    verify all jets to be the recommended by Rotax, go by the book!

    Sounds like a float level issue. Check that both floats are equally bouyant and check the float arm 'tang' adjustment as per the service manual. With the carb inverted, each float should be checked that they are the correct distance and parallel to the carb body.
    Reassemble and test run the engine for a minute or two, then shut down and check the fuel level in the carb bowl. If it is too high, then the fuel valve viton point or seat has a problem. Other than that, the next thing I would check is the fuel pressure. Do you have an electric pump installed in your A/C?

    Sounds awfully like the carbs are vibrating excessively at those engine revs. The floats then don't hold the fuel inlet needle valve properly closed and the float chamber overfills. So it's prop balance, engine mounts and carb supports (if any) to look at.

    I had a similar problem with a single carb 447. Was cured by dispensing with the inlet silencer box, which was supported by thin steel 'tongues', and fitting the alternative K&N conical filter (unsupported, and a next size up main jet).

    Thanks for all the feedback.
    All standard spec jets, needles and adjustments. I checked them once more to be sure.
    Float level was checked per rotax manual (shut Dow at elevated rpm) and it was right too.
    Vibration and inability to keep valve closed is an interesting idea. I will check the prop balance and also double check the carb balance once more.
    I do not have an electric pump. Just the normal pulse pump. I think I need to check the pressure there too. Just need to get a gauge hooked up. The manual says 3-6 psi. What has anyone else seen as values?
    I will check on all of this, hopefully next weekend.

    You might want to check the enrichener, if all else fails. Sometimes the valve in the enrichener circuit can stick open or leak and cause that carb to run rich. If you are using a primer, you probably don't use the enrichener, but it pays to clean them out when you clean the carbs.
