Hello, 582 experts !

I experienced a second stator ( ducati coil magneto generator) failure after I changed my Stator already one year ago only . My last stator lasted only 40 hours ....... My dealer of spares told me that stators are much more fragile now than in the past ( and a bit les expensive ,also) ......I don't know if Ducati. reduced their specifications or quality of components to reduce cost ( ????)
Anyway a stator failure is not easy to detect because the result of such failure is that the engine is difficult to start when it is hot .
The pilots who experiments this situation usually checks fuel circuit, carbs, sparkplugs, etc .......and spends long time to search the failure cause, to finaly come to the finding that the cause is the stator !!!!!

Does anyone around here knows the best way to protect the stator from a too quick collapse ? One guess is that the stator may suffer more on inverted engine ( my case) because the condensation will not be aliminated due to the design of the stator housing.......
In any case any suggestion to help on " stator failure" subject will be much appreciated ......

I also had this problem. First my tach started showing less and less rpm's. Also my hour meter stopped working so I had to tap off a relay term that was hot if the master was on, I did not like that due to if I forgot to shut master I would rack up hrs, luckily never happened. Finally noticed hard to start when warm, on of the coils measured only 195 ohms, tach was at 27. I purchased a new 670 w/ all new ign. from Rotax Rick, should be running by the end of March 2019. My flying boat had 180 hrs and was built 2003.

    Hi, Mike
On my side I did not notice any additional issue than difficult (or impossible) starting of warm engine as a consequence of stator weakness. I would never have thought that it could have an impact on hour meter or tach .....By the way, can you confirm that real rpm was normal, although it was shown different on your tach ?.

FYI I am located on Martinique ( french West Indies, Carrabean ). I will probably sell my boat in a few month, although I did not make my final decision yet.

    Mike,
I understand that you up graded your 582 into a new Rotax Rick 670 .
This is supposed to deliver much more power ( 92 HP vs 64 HP ) for your FIB. Do you actually confirm that the 3 obtectives are achieved :
    - Less distance / time to take off
    - Less rpm in cruise
    - less fuel consumption

If your answer is "yes" , so we can wander why Rotax did not produce its engine with RR 670 spec ?

My 582 ran great w/ no rpm loss, indication only. I am still installing the 670, waiting for the modified exhaust to be delivered today. I do believe all 3 objectives will be realized. The 670 was a snowmobile eng. Rotax did not make this for aircraft, Rotax Rick is not an employee of Rotax, he just modifies the 670 to adapt to aircraft. What would you be asking for your boat and how much do you think it would take to ship to Florida? What year and condition is it in?

Big question about your boat, I doubt you have an american "N" number registration on it.
