Type 316 alloy is more corrosion resistant and there is no problem when used on 304 SS, we did it all the time in the shop. It is more expensive though.

HI all
The correct place to look is in the installation manual. If the exhaust is not from a different supplier the exhaust "kit" is shown with the requirements in that manual. Most is 304 SS with the canister made or 321 SS I believe. If however you have an exhaust that was made by a kit supplier you would need to ask them.
The biggest mistake in welding any exhaust is not using a purge gas inside when welding up a crack or other damage on the exhaust. The internal side of any said crack then can have impurities and lead to another crack shortly after. normally you would use a gas like Argon inside the pipe when doing the repair. Talk to your welder and if they are not familiar with this process....talk to another one.
