Generator not charging

I would start by measuring the output of the generator with a multimeter when the engine is running. You should have roughly 14V, if not then there is a problem with the generator. I would then measure across the battery and if the voltage isn't almost as high as the generator output then I would start looking for bad connections. You can use your meter to measure the volt drop across the the various components in series with the alternator output. It could be a problem with the current shunt used to measure the current.
