Doing a 5 yr rubber on a 912ULS. Discovered the metal coolant tubes are corroded where the clamps held the hoses on.
Corroded/pitted to the point where they need to be replaced. There's been a 5 yr before. (Tecnam Bravo 2004)(Currently @ 550hrs)
Am curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Rubber replacement sent from Italy 'partially' match what's on my motor.

Anyone else have a coolant hose setup that looks like these parts in the one picture of hoses?

    Hi Dan

Cant help you on the parts but can tell you for sure you are using the wrong coolant.  This is because whatever brand you have it is electrically active with the coolant.

Flush and replace with something like Dex-Cool, any of the extended life coolants branded with that name.  OAT or HOAT fluids will not have this type of issue.

    Cheers

What kind of coolant are you using? I've seen many 2K (and some at 3K - 5200 hrs) engines and no corrosion on these parts. Plus how long between coolant changes.?  Most owners I see now days in the US use Dex Cool 50/50 without any issues.

Absolutely agree with RW & Roger L.

Get the right coolant for the job.

I prefer concentrate, so that I know for sure the correct 50:50 mix with pure/distilled/deionised water, is being used.

I change my coolant every 200 hrs/2 years, whichever comes first, even if the manufacturer gives some crazy extended in service life.

Thank you everyone. I discovered the issue doing the 5 year. The log books show the waterless stuff being used for awhile then changed out. The system was flushed and replaced with dex-cool. New coolant is going in when the engine is back together.

I still don't know why Tecnam sent the short 90's and hoses. They could probably be made to fit but not as as nice as the original setup. I did a mock up but the new hoses put a real strain on the radiator connection.
