At cruise (5000rpm) our oil pressure gauge needle flickers but remains in the normal range. All other indications are normal.I suspect a bouncing pressure relief valve. Does anyone have any ideas about this - we have been told that this is normal behaviour with some engines. Engine time is 180 hours since new.

It could also be a defective oil pressure sensor or a break in the wire leading from the sensor to the gauge.

We also had problems with oil pressure readings and our local agent replaced the transmitter and installed a brass ring on the outside. I was told this stops harmonic vibrations affecting the resister. Not to sure if the mod is Rotax.

A bad ground will cause fairly large swings. Rotax has new parts for oil pressure stabilization. They are a new plug screw, replace the oil pressure spring and replace the old ball bearing with the new oil pressure regulator cone. I don't have that parts numbers with me right now as I'm out of town, but they are in the Rotax Parts manual or maybe someone else will have them at hand. )mushroom)

I moved my $400 Honeywell transducer from next to the gearbox back to firewall and my oil pressure readings are now rock solid. I did try the mushroom shaped piece first and it did remove some of the bouncing but moving the Honeywell stopped it all.

Remote mounting the oil pressure sender and fuel pressure sender off the engine will definitely help in longevity and stability. This is very easy to do.
