    Nir,

Definitely do the purge. Don't skip a single part of it or the results could be disastrous. One thing I might add is that it may take many more pulls on the prop to get the oil flowing than the book says. Pull the prop as long as it takes.

And don't be clever like I thought I was and take the plugs out to make it easy!!!!! You need the blow by to push the oil back to the tank.

    Hi Mike,

On an oil purge you do remove one plug from each cyl. Then you disconnect the oil return line off the top of the tank and cap it off. Let that line hang over a pan. Then put an air pressure line in the end of the oil tank vent tube. Pressure to be regulated between 5-15 psi. Air will leak out as the tank is not air tight, but the pressure regulator will keep it constant. Add a little more oil to the tank so the level doesn't drop to low and let air into the system. I usually wear a thick glove and rotate the prop with a little speed. I can get 55-70 psi on the oil gauge that way. Once oil is running out the return line into the pan you should be good. Now you are supposed to check the tappets under the valve cover for hardness and to make sure they are not soft with air in the system. I don't quit at the first drop of oil, but turn it a little more to get a solid little stream. Once done reconnect the return line and then check the oil level.

This is a quick description. Watch the video here on this website for details and read it in the manual.

You are certainly right, sorry for the confusion I may have created. It's because I didn't have compressed air so I did it my way.
I disconnected the oil feed line from the reservoir to the engine/oil pump at the reservoir end and pushed a 2 ft (60 cm) piece of transparent hose over the end of the pipe and fixed it vertically with a funnel pushed in the top end. I then disconnected the return line from the engine to the reservoir at the reservoir end. By filling the funnel and watching the oil descend in the transparent pipe while I turned the prop I could see that the pump was sucking oil in and when the oil started to return through the other pipe I knew I had filled the oil filter and circuit.
