What is the difference between a battery relay and a starter relay? I just have what looks like a starter relay with a rotary starter switch and a simple SPST master switch. It's a Rotax 912uls in a Rans S12S. Do I need to add the battery relay?

    Bill,

Sounds like you have a pretty much standard setup. Starter solenoid (or relay) is the one that has the heavy wiring from your battery going through it to the starter. It is usually located somewhere near the engine between the battery and the starter. The rotary switch usually turns on your accessories power, supplies power to the starter solenoid when in the start position, and sometimes operates the mag kill switches depending on the type of rotary switch you have. The master switch isolates the battery from everything. If switched off with the engine running however, it will not kill the mags. (a good thing).
