Hello all,

I have to replace my ignition cables. One seems to be broken. My question is: Do I have to remove the intake manifolds as described in SI-912-013 or is there any workaround when I just want to replace the ignition cables? And, can I use silicone cables? Are there any built in resistors in the original ignition cables or is it plain copper? Thanks for Your Help!

    Hi Hans,
Do NOT use silicon cables; they will cause you nothing but grief. Also do not use the Rotax 2-stroke cable with the white inner core. It will not run more than 3000rpm.
The Rotax cables are plain copper. They have to be screwed into the coils and that can be very hard with the coils mounted. If you don't get the prong threaded all the way into the wire you can have a miss-fire/arcing problem so removing the coil pack may be the only way.
You MUST use the outer sheath! It is an insulator and prevents misfires. It should be slipped over the coil wire port to form a watertight seal. re-using the old sheath does not work very well as it gets very stiff as it ages. Do not substitute with heatshrink.
Please dont try and be "thrifty" when it comes to such a critical system.
see attached for some more info on installing the secondary wire (it shows the spark plug caps but the coil connection is the same threaded prong concept)

Thanks for Your Information. So I can use the plain copper cable I already have. And thanks also for the informative PDF!
