#3 cylinder does not have any o-rings but you could have a crack in the crankcase allowing oil to travel up the stud. In the photo below you can see the crack clearly after the NDI process. The stud was maybe over-torqued?

    Rob,

Thanks for the quick reply and picture.

So at this point what diagnostic steps are the most logical? Or is splitting the case and NDT the only course of action.

At 696 hours this engine has had only routine maintenance and a gear box inspection, no repair work at all.

    Thanks again,

    Ron

I would pull the cylinder and take a look. I did hear of a guy who just sealed up the stud and it is working fine....

Two posts from this thread went missing, one stating what I found which I have re-typed below and a reply from Rob saying an option he had seen done is seal the stud so oil does not travel up it.

I replied yesterday that I removed the cylinder nuts, the cylinder studs were finger tight so I removed them one at a time. The top right stud was wet with oil, the other three were dry.

So without removing the cylinder it appears I have a cracked crankcase at the top right stud threads. I will go ahead and remove the cylinder to see if I can see and assess the crack.

My question to all is with a cracked crankcase what are my options for repair.

    Thanks,
    Ron

hmmm, missing posts, the conspiracy theorist will love it....
Kidding; The admin says it was a network glitch that erased all the posts in that time frame.
My answer was to see if it was an overtorque crack like the one in the photo and if it is "I heard of a guy who filled it with sealant (loctite 5910? 243?) and put it back together"
