Hey Kevin, I looked at that ETX680, which looks like a direct replacement for the Odyssey PC680. That lithium has a lot more cranking amps, in fact, all of the specs are way superior. It is almost 3 times the price though. Of course shedding 3 pounds off of the nose wheel ain't all bad either. Thanks, I'll give it some thought..............Tom

Yes they are a little pricey, but like you said lighter and more cranking power. with its built in maintainer it is a nice option. I dropped 7 lbs with my battery switch and gained double the cranking power. I look forward to testing it out at -20 celsius , that will be the real test.

Surely you pre-heat up there?? I'm in Kentucky, and hangared, but when the temps get anywhere near 0 Celsius, I blow some heat into the cowl for an hour or so before cranking. That even warms the battery, and also greatly reduces the warmup time.....Tom

I have used a lithium battery for close to 3 years and am quite happy with the performance and weight saving. The only fault is the fact that the battery loses its ability to develop starting current at about 0C. I fly frequently in northern Canadian winter conditions.
