This is one of those nice occasions when the fix was quick and easy. My absence meant that my 912UL sat for three months without running. I drained the fuel from the tanks and disconnected the battery prior locking the hangar.

On my return I was pleased to see that the Odyssey held a charge. I added fresh fuel, sumped and started. The starter turned over nicely, at 300 rpm, but no fire. Repeatedly. I opened the cowl had a look and sniff---hmmm, no fuel odor. Would have expected to encounter a whiff of gas.

So I pulled cowl, and dropped one of the float bowls. Plenty of fuel spilled out. I was surprised to find that the floats were *adhering* to the bottom of the float bowl. In three months I guess the small amount of gas remaining in the float bowl had congealed; I live in a warm/hot place. As it happened I possessed the replacement floats, and this was a good reason to install them. I cleaned the interior of the bowl and the pins with a rag and WD-40, verified free movement of the new floats. Put it all back together and wham, within five seconds the engine roared back to life, just like it did in November. Whew,

I'm glad it worked out Adam.
If you are storing your aircraft again you should fill it with avgas and run it enough to fill the carbs with avgas. Then top up the fuel tanks. Avgas is very stable and has no ethanol.
By draining your tanks you exposed the inside to moisture and contamination. Any metal such as fuel sender parts and fittings may be damaged.

Rob, great points. The fuel here (Democratic Republic of Congo) does not contain ethanol. Avgas is not available. In a few months I will ship my aircraft to a new location; draining all of the fuel is a requirement--the plane gets disassembled and stuffed into a container. It will spend several months in transit. I was going to drain and dry out the float bowls. Any suggestions about what to do in this circumstance? thanks

What you have planed is the best under those circumstances.
At least the fuel will not be evaporating and leaving crud inside the carb.
Make sure you plug all the openings such as carb and exhaust.
Anyone else have any suggestions for shipping by container?
